Week 1: Introduction to Tamoraic Sounds & Greetings
Welcome to the first week of learning Tamoraic! This week we will cover the language’s foundational sounds and essential greetings. Practice each phrase out loud to gain confidence in the flowing and rhythmic pronunciation of Tamoraic.
1. Pronunciation Basics
Tamoraic is vowel-heavy and emphasizes smooth pronunciation. Here's a quick guide:
- A: Pronounced as "ah" in "father"
- O: Pronounced as "oh" in "note"
- E: Pronounced as "eh" in "met"
- I: Pronounced as "ee" in "see"
- U: Pronounced as "oo" in "moon"
Consonants are soft and rhythmic. For example, "T" is pronounced with a slight tap of the tongue on the teeth.
2. Basic Greetings
- Hello: Mana tō! (pronounced MAH-nah toh)
- Goodbye: Tēra no! (pronounced TEH-rah noh)
- How are you?: Faro kēta? (pronounced FAH-roh KEH-tah)
- I'm good: Namo fēt! (pronounced NAH-moh feht)
- Thank you: Māro tō! (pronounced MAH-roh toh)
- Please: Sēta (pronounced SEH-tah)
Practice Activity
Say the following conversation out loud with a friend or record yourself:
You: Mana tō! Faro kēta? (Hello! How are you?)
Friend: Namo fēt. Māro tō! (I'm good. Thank you!)
3. Cultural Tip
Greetings are important in Tamoraic culture. Always begin conversations with a friendly "Mana tō!" to show respect and openness.
Assignment
Practice saying "Mana tō! Faro kēta?" and responding with "Namo fēt!" five times a day. Write down any challenges with pronunciation and bring questions to next week's lesson.
